Happy Earth Day to you all! The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, this Saturday, April 22nd from 12:30pm – 5:00pm, with free admission for all thanks to The Albright will have activities that the whole family can enjoy. Activities will include everything from making a biodegradable planter and enjoying a special Earth Day story time, to visiting a wildlife station on the west end of the Pier. At 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., join the Aquarium for “Who Pollutes?”—an interactive lesson in keeping the waterways and ocean healthy. The Albright is the longest running restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, which also happens to be the birthplace of the beloved American icon, Popeye the sailor-man. Popeye was created in 1929 by cartoonist Elzie C. Segar and was inspired by a retired Navy sailor named Olaf Olsen who worked on the Pier. Be sure to snap a family photo with The Albright’s life-size cut out of Popeye the Sailor-Man outside of the aquarium and then stop by the restaurant after for a delicious and eco-friendly meal!
