If you are up for a good scare, and your heart can take the horror; Dark Harbors is MADE for you!
Lets start by stating that the last ‘horror’ event I went to was over 10 years ago! And ever since having children (5.5yrs ago) I haven’t been able to make it through a horror film without plugging my ears and halfway covering my eyes. And they still keep me up at night! Needless to say, I was a mix of emotions when given this special opportunity.
I was lucky enough to attend opening night of Dark Harbor at the Queen Mary. Thank Goodness the event started early enough that it wasn’t fully dark outside, or else I probably wouldn’t have made it through the front gates!
Before the opening of the gates we were greeted by dead bar maidens as we watched some freak acts! Here’s a couple pictures of 2 of the freaks we were able to watch. If these acts didn’t get your heart racing enough, the telling of the Dark Harbor story at the gates will for sure! I was literally shaking as I could hear the monsters on the other side.
The gates open and a RUSH of monsters and dead things come running towards you. Me especially. I do feel like they feed off your energy, and as I was using my husband and a human shield, they wanted to follow us around. hehe
We headed straight to the Intrepid which is where the maze is. The maze was pretty cool and of course horrifying! Creatures wear these metal finger tips and knee guards so they can make sparks fly and insanely loud noises as they scoot on by you. I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
SPEAKING of terrifying mazes. The ‘Freak Show’ is actually a maze. And honestly the scariest in my opinion. It was a lot darker and with crazy amounts of fog where you could not see anything. At the end of the maze it brings you to behind the Creppy Cabanas where there is a live freak show going on. Also, my husband found this little screen where you could actually watch a certain area of the Freak Show Maze and push a button to scare people your self! WE sat there for a good while cracking up! That’s a must see!A couple other fun things we were able to do was shooting monsters with paint ball guns, the sinister swings and the 4D experience. I refused to do any other mazes cause I honestly don’t think my heart could have taken much more. But the 4D experience was really cool! A good place to cool down and rest your feet for a bit!
So much to see while there and so much good food. Be sure to check out Tomb Tacos! Delicious!Once it got really dark, I got really uncomfortable with all those crazy creatures running around so we sat and watched a live hula hooper! If I was brave enough to ender the gates of Dark Harbor, you can do it too! You just might need a change of underpants! hehe
