The film, which stars Chris Pine (“Star Trek”), Elizabeth Banks, and Michelle Pfeiffer, is a drama/comedy that will leave you intrigued and wanting you to reach out to your own family. It’s the story of a salesman who, while settling his recently deceased father’s estate, discovers that he has a sister who he never knew about. The movie follows the development of their relationship, the difficult choices they have to make in life and the way that they have to reexamine their perceptions about family.
While I haven’t been in that particular situation before, I will say that sometimes we don’t get to truly know a person until it is too late. We might have had one perspective but after digging a little deeper you realize your assumptions might have been a little skewed and that with new information, the missing pieces of the puzzle fall into place. That’s what happens here.
Elizabeth Banks plays a single mom and I could find myself relating to her in some of her struggles with her son. One of my many favorite scenes in the movie is the clip I posted below.
I won’t provide too many details for fear of spoiling the movie for you, but I will tell you that you should be prepared to laugh and to cry. So head to the theater today to watch how it turns out – you will be happy that you did.
When watching the movie you couldn’t help but notice several historic LA landmarks such as Coles, the Standard, Henry’s Tacos and Neptune’s Net. I challenge you to see what others you can spot.
