My boys are anxiously counting the days until they get a chance to “Million Dollar Arm” in the next couple of weeks. To their credit, they’re trying to frame this as my Mother’s Day present but I know better. I had to admit that it was cute to hear them try to explain that it’s a movie about baseball and since they play (and love) the game and since I love them, then I should love the movie. Pretty creative, no?
What I won’t admit to them, though, is that while I’m not a sports fan my interest was piqued when I read about this movie. It’s based on a true story in which sports agent JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) finds that things aren’t going the way he wanted to in his career. In an attempt to save his livelihood he devises a plan and sets out to India to find baseball’s next great pitching ace. Taking along retired baseball scout Ray Poitevint (Alan Arkin) he finds two 18 year olds, Dinesh (Madhur Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rink (Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”) who can throw a fastball but who have no idea how to play baseball.
That sure sounds like a home run to me and I can’t wait for this movie to hit theaters May 16th, I am sure its going to steal not just my heart, but yours as well.
