I first want to tell you that I loved Duracell and the greatest thing I invested in was the their rechargeable batteries. I have never had a problem with this product, until the other night. As I took the batteries from their charging station I placed them in the boys Wii remote and handed it to my son. Within five minutes my son comes screaming down the hall with the remote in hand screaming fire. Startled I took the remote. The batteries were hot and smelt like smoke. I wrote Duracell to let them know what happened and I even offered to send them the defective batteries back. I still have not heard back from them.
Makes me nervous to think what would have happened if I left the batteries in the remote or another item in the house and left. What would I have come home to? Phew… Thank goodness I was home. As a precaution I wonder if I should be taking the batteries out of all the devices when I leave the house? Or am I being a little neurotic in my thinking?
