The BA BA dilemma, I stopped nursing my son at a year due to a medical condition. This condition came with severe migraines and finally after being hospitalized for it, I had to go on migraine medication and nerve blockers and I wasn’t able to nurse. It was devastating I had to quit cold turkey and it was a very hard transition for both of us. Since then getting him to take a bottle was a challenge and I had to get creative. I finally found two bottles that he would take, AVENT and BREASTFLOW bottles. They were the ones that he reluctantly took to if he couldn’t nurse.
My baby is now a toddler and he loves his BA BA, so much I often feel he is abusing his privileges. If I put a nipple on a milk jug he would be happy.
Approaching 2 years old, I am trying to wean him from his beloved BA BA. The guilt of abruptly having to stop nursing makes the guilt that much harder when I try to be firm with giving him the sippy cup. He throws it and cries when he goes to bed. I give in and let him have a water BA BA to go to bed.
I don’t remember the bottles being a big issue with my other two. The pacifier was the culprit in our house. But that is a whole other issue, lets just say by kindergarten they gave it up thank goodness. This scares me if history is any indication regarding the letting go process, for both mommy and baby. My oldest is 12 years old and my middle son is 7 years old, its been a long time since I have been at this stage. I am not sure what to do.
I feel kind of embarrassed as I am not a rookie when it comes to certain issues and parenting. Yet this has really stumped me, the transition from a BA BA to a sippy cup. He will take the sippy cup for about five minutes and then chuck it. Do I just quit cold turkey? I am kind of sad to think that this will be the second time he will be ripped from something without a transition. I assure you its not just mommy being reluctant with this transition its the baby too.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you could give that can help us during this time. Do I need to be the drill sergeant or can I be like Switzerland? Does it have to be black or white? Or can I add a little gray?
When he says BA BA YAY I say BA BA NAY!
